DOGWOOD ACRES, 01/18/2010, ELANE CRUM
Hello friends. It seems to have been a very short week with little news. We did attend Erin’s first basketball game for the season at Plainview last Thursday night and enjoyed seeing the Cougars play. Third through sixth graders played, winning two of three games.
Rick helped Neal install a cabinet job in Springfield on Friday and then picked the girls up at school. They stayed with us until Sunday, so there was not a dull moment.
The girls went with me to show a house in Spokane early Saturday morning and from there we headed to Branson West and truly had a “girl’s day out”. Lunch was at Taco Bell, and then there had to be a stop at Wal-Mart where we saw Tanja and Vanessa Bilyeu, Tanja’s mom, Karen Badley, and Kim’s little boy.
Girls like makeup so we stopped at Wal-Green’s to see some new products. The lady at the cosmetic counter turned out to be Earlene Henry, who I remembered from Highlandville School about fifty years ago. It was fun seeing her and we had a good visit.
Earlene, who goes to church at Healing River Worship Center (formerly known as Oak Ridge), told me all about Earl and Oleta Bradford’s recent 60th wedding anniversary celebration. Earl surprised Oleta with a renewal of their vows, which sounded real special.
While in Branson West, we visited Uncle Bill and Aunt Roma Smith in their new home at Wedgewood Gardens. It is a real pretty place and from their cozy apartment, there is a wonderful view of country hillsides. Surrounded by furniture and pictures from home, it was not much different than sitting in their living room in Forsyth. They had ventured out to Wal-Mart and had lunch at McDonald’s before we got there.
Justin and Kasie visited with us Saturday night and hooked up his new camera to our TV for a slideshow of Christmas pictures. While Trent was home, they found a snow covered cedar glade back in the hills and shot some nice family pictures.
This morning Rick and Sean visited with Justin and Kasie and put a new faucet on the kitchen sink. Kasie is so proud of her new faucet and I told her she is lucky to have such good landlords.
I think we are all glad to see brown earth now that the snow has melted. When I left for work early this morning, fog was heavy and frozen on the leaves and car windows. I had heard about a few slide-offs so took it easy and made it to Branson in one piece. Tomorrow morning I have appointments in Springfield and look forward to an early drive north through the Pinery. Maybe I will see a bear! Bye for now.
