DOGWOOD ACRES, 02/08/10, ELANE CRUM
Hello friends. Well, so what happened to the big snowstorm? I worked on the computer at home as the falling snow created a winter wonderland outside my windows, just never accumulated more than a couple of inches. I guess we should be relieved to not have all the inconvenience that comes with a blizzard.
Bill Hodges went squirrel hunting again last week and there was another platter full of fried squirrel for Sunday dinner, mashed potatoes and squirrel gravy too! Mary Lou always cooks a huge meal, but I usually try to take something. This Sunday I made lasagna and a cherry cheesecake, just like the ones Daddy used to make. Mary Lou had also made a cherry cheesecake, but using a different recipe, so they were not exactly alike.
After the kitchen was cleaned up, Bill and Mary Lou put on their farm boots and went out in the fields to catch a new calf. This little black one was the early bird of many more spring calves yet to come.
Saturday night Rick and I went to Clever to watch basketball. Marty’s daughter, Vanessa, plays with Blue Eye’s Lady Bulldogs and they were playing Sparta’s Lady Trojan’s for Tournament Championship. It was a good game, going into one overtime and Sparta won first place. Most of our Pine Ridge family was there to give our support to Vanessa and her team.
It was good to see an old Pine Ridge neighbor, Knial Iorg, who was there to support Sparta. We miss him on our ridge and were glad he looked us up to say “HI”.
I just heard that Earl Bradford passed away. He and Oleta were on vacation at Padre Island when he had a heart attack. Visitation will be at Healing River Worship Center (Oak Ridge) on Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m. Memorial Service will be there on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Earl and Oleta recently celebrated sixty years of marriage; he will be missed by his sweetheart and many, many relatives and friends.
Harold and Juanita Menzies brought a carload of giggly little girls to church Sunday morning. There was their two granddaughters and great-niece, Kambria Todd. Harold said he didn’t know three little girls could giggle so much.
We had the annual business meeting at Sandy Church last week and Neal Crum received unanimous vote to continue as Pastor. It hardly seems possible that this could be the beginning of his tenth year at Sandy; we are so thankful for God’s blessing on Neal and LeaAnn. Bye for now.
