DOGWOOD ACRES, 03/15/2010, ELANE CRUM
Hello friends. Another week gone and we are only a couple of weeks away from April. Rick continues to hear about Walleye and White Bass catches, but he is waiting for warmer weather.
Ashton Crum went to the Beta Club Convention in Branson Friday and Saturday, so Erin was little Miss Lone Ranger at our house. We got out Saturday, did some shopping and went to see Aunt Roma and Uncle Bill in Branson West. To our surprise, they were not there because he was in Skaggs Hospital. We backtracked and visited him in the hospital before coming on home. He left the hospital on Monday and surely is glad to be back in his own easy chair.
After we got home, Erin challenged me to a game of Pickup Sticks. She discovered them among her Daddy’s old games recently and is really getting quite good. It did not take too many rounds before she realized that I was easy to beat, so she began trying to beat herself. I think her high score so far has been 731.
Jim and Dawn visited us Saturday night. While Dawn looked up some things on the internet, Jim went through the old pictures that I borrowed from Rita Roberts. Looking at old pictures of our Davis grandparents and great-grandparents was fun as we tried to figure out whose chin we had. We always thought it was Granny Nettie’s chin, but now not so sure.
If you remember, two weeks ago Jim and Dawn had gone “Mudding” with Justin and Kasie. Their latest adventure has been “Geocaching” with Chip and Debbie Dudden. Geocaching is a high-tech version of hide-and-seek where you explore the outdoors in search of hidden treasure. Chip and Debbie had come over to visit their dog that lives with Jim and Dawn and discovered one of these hidden treasures to be nearby in the Mark Twain Forest.
Rick and I went to visitation and funeral for Patsy Kenyon. There was a big crowd at both, with standing room only at Lone Star Church. David Koenig, Pastor at Lone Star, preached the funeral sermon and did such a good job.
I saw Hobert Collins last week and he gave me a flyer announcing the Third annual Alzheimer’s Gospel Sing. It will be Saturday, April 3, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Taney Center. Bob Hammon and Wildwood will be there, along with other good singers.
Today someone faxed me news about a Retirement Social for Dr. Roston and Judy. It will be April 17 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Forsyth school. There will be a “Roast” early in the afternoon and socializing later. There must be many stories and memories to share of how Doc and Judy helped you and your family. Their friends ask that you write some of these stories down and bring them in an envelope.
Last week seemed to bring buyers and sellers out of and into the woods. I have climbed steep banks, walked beneath tall Pines, and jumped over logs, all the while, being thankful that it is not tick and chigger season. On the other hand, black bears will be crawling out of their caves some warm day soon so I will keep a sharp eye out for them. Bye for now.
