DOGWOOD ACRES, 06/07/10, ELANE CRUM
Hello friends. Rick and I kicked off the weekend by attending the Ozark Bull Rides. We went into town early to do a little shopping, stopping first at the Goodwill Store. I was looking for cushions to put on our outdoor furniture for the cats to lie on. Regardless of how I try to accommodate them, they seem to choose places I would rather they stay away from. Did not find anything, but we did see Rick and Gay Lea Thomas shopping for gardening clothes.
Next stop was the Dollar Tree where I found supplies for my scrapbook craft project at Jr. High Church Camp next week. Rick chose to sit in the car with windows rolled down and just about roasted, so he went inside at our next stop which was Wal-Mart. There I was pleased to find clay pots for the new flower feature on my kitchen deck. It was so hot, guess it was all the asphalt parking lots, so we hit Backyard Burger for a cold ice tea and cool place to relax before going on to the Bull Rides.
We like to sit on the top bleacher with a board to our back and got there about 7:15. The sun was still high, but soon cooled down and we enjoyed a blissful evening with cool breezes off the river. It was a good outing, bulls were mean and riders were brave. There were seven eight-second rides made, some hard hits, but nobody left in the ambulance.
Both of us were out early on Saturday morning; Rick to coffee at Justin’s and I had floor duty at the office. After coffee Rick went to see Jeff Dalton and found him cutting and burning brush; glad to know Jeff is feeling better.
After leaving work, I went to the wedding of Kaitlyn Cutbirth and Eric Grube at New Haven Church. Kaitlyn was a beautiful bride and I enjoyed the opportunity to be with friends and family at such a happy event.
Jim and Dawn came over Sunday night to bring their yard sale leftovers to leave with us for Ava’s Options Pregnancy Clinic yard sale. They had just got back from visiting Dawn’s family in Taloga, OK, and were home early enough to hoe weeds out of the garden. Sean Tilley and Dakota Bilyeu came and helped, so they were done before dark.
LeaAnn came over with an empty truck this morning and carted off all our good yard sale stuff . Options Pregnancy Clinic in Ava can be found across from O’Reilly’s and beside the Laundromat. They will be ready when the Citywide Sales begin on Thursday. Their sale will be inside where it is cool so if you are over that way, go visit their new clinic and do some shopping while you are there.
The young men in Rick’s Sunday School class have told him there may be a Walleye or two to be caught so he has taken his waders and gone to the lake. I hope he catches a keeper or two so that we can have some fresh fish.
Our kids went to the Phipps Family Reunion in Ava Sunday afternoon. They were honored to have PaPa Billy Hodges crowned “King” of the reunion, for having missed only two of the last 38 reunions. That is Grandma Bessie (Phipps) Hodges family.
Sunday was LeaAnn’s birthday, so we had cake and ice cream after church Sunday night. The little kids and a few of the older people really enjoy those after church snack times. When the party was over, we went up to their house to get Erin some clothes to spend the night with us. LeaAnn let the two goats, Lily and Willie out of the chicken pen, and they headed straight for her rose bushes where they got a big bite. She got ahold of their ears and finally got them out of the yard for a run through the hay field. The two dogs, Red and Bandit, also went along so she had great company for her evening run.
Rob and Mindy Frazier are proud parents of a big baby boy, Cale Ryan. At 9 lbs. And 6 oz. Cale is a beautiful baby, or at least that is what Grandpa Danny and Grandma Danita think.
Bill Biggs came home from work this week to find his beehives toppled over and ravaged by the neighborhood bear. There were no witnesses to the crime, but we know the bear was hungry. Bye for now.
