Dogwood Acres, 02/22/10

DOGWOOD ACRES, 02/22/10, ELANE CRUM

Hello friends. Both granddaughters stayed with us Friday and Saturday nights. Friday night we went to the revival at Taneyville Community Church, where it was good to worship with friends. Saturday was another sleep-in morning and we had a late breakfast of pancakes, sausage and gravy. Seems that everyone had been so busy that we had not seen much of our Dogwood Acres family lately, so we visited Jim and Dawn, Christie, Sean and Madison.

Jim was building a table for one of his saws and Dawn, having a little spring fever, was cleaning off the garden. She took time out to show Ashton and Erin all of the pretty necklaces she had made and then, helped them make their own. Both girls were happy with the new necklaces that matched their Sunday clothes.

At the Biggs’ house Grandma Christie was helping Madison put away crayons from a nice art project.

Bill Biggs enjoys telling friends that his wife Christie has retired...so they think she must be OLD enough to be retired. With 26 years at Bank of America Christie automatically qualified for a timely retirement program that allowed her to move on to the next chapter of her life. She is still among the employed as a Mortgage Banker with PrimeLending out of Dallas, Texas, although her office will be in Branson. If you've been trying to find her, she can be reached at 417.339.9888.

Neal and Sean worked on the log house again last week and I cooked for them. Their menu varied a little every day…Spitfire Venison Chili on Tuesday, Venison Stew on Wednesday, and fried Venison Loin Steak with gravy on Thursday. On Friday Rick made grilled cheese sandwiches to go with the week's leftovers. I think we will start this week with fish from the freezer.

I made Rick a batch of his favorite white fudge Saturday night. It is so easy, just used the recipe on marshmallow crème, but left out the chocolate chips. We like it with nuts, but left those out, so that Ashton and Erin would eat it. The girls will not eat anything with nuts or onions in it, surely they do not know what they are missing.

We went to one ballgame last week as Erin’s team, Plainview Cougars, played at Taneyville. This week we get to travel to Plainview for a tournament, then next week there will be a tournament at Taneyville. The games are always fun and we enjoy seeing old friends. Bye for now.
