Dogwood Acres, 02/15/10

DOGWOOD ACRES, 02/15/10, ELANE CRUM

Hello friends. We have had a good week and
Valentine’s weekend. Friday night Rick and I went to
the Homecoming game at Bradleyville and enjoyed
seeing all the kids dressed up for the dance. After
playing such hard games, I don’t know how the kids
had energy enough to dance. The girls fashion called
for high heels that I can no longer walk in, let
alone think of dancing in. I wanted to stay and
watch but my granddaughter made sure I knew that was
not allowed.
After years of Ashton and Erin coming to our house
after school on Fridays and spending the night, times
are changing. Since Ashton was staying for the
dance, we only had Erin for the weekend. We missed
Ashton, but Erin seemed to like having the computer
all to herself. Papa went to bed early but she and I
stayed up ‘til after midnight, watching TV and eating
popcorn.
We slept late on Saturday, then went to Forsyth
for lunch and on to Cedarcreek to take pictures of a
new listing. That turned out to be more fun than
they expected as we went to the lake for dock
pictures. Rick said if he lived that close to the
lake, he would fish every day. It was almost dark
when we got home, but his fishing fever was up. It
did not take long for him to load the fishing poles
and head out for a little Walleye fishing. He
caught his limit, but no keepers as they were all too
short.
Sunday was our monthly dinner day at church and
Sunday night was Fifth Sunday singing at Caney
Church. It had been scheduled for the last Sunday
night of January, but due to bad weather had been
rescheduled. With several churches participating,
the house was full and there was a lot of good
singing. When the service was over, we were all
surprised to see our cars covered with snow! It
snowed on us all the way home and most of Sunday
night, but was such a light, dry snow, that our roads
were not bad.
Weather was so beautiful Saturday when we were at
Bull Shoals Lake, but Sunday and Monday sure did a
flip-flop. Wearing my warmest boots and heavy winter
coat on Monday morning, I showed houses that were
vacant and had little or no heat on. Surely I was
thankful for a good car heater to take the chill off
and I never slowed down enough for the heat to put me
to sleep.
There is one more day of this cold weather before
a couple of days of warm sunshine to prepare us for
possibly more snow by the end of the week. The
neighborhood snowgirl finally melted apart and
toppled over, although, she held her shape much
longer than I expected. Bye for now.
