Dogwood Acres, 04/26/10

DOGWOOD ACRES, 04/26/10, ELANE CRUM

Hello friends.. When Mother was living and literally “penned” this article each week, she once told me that sometimes she had to just get the first line written before she could think of anything else to write. This is one of those days. I have now written the first line, so what is next?
We were just on the edge of the storm that came through our area Saturday. On one side of our house are the two tall Pines that we love so much. On the other side is the tall and very dead Oak tree that Neal and his friends used to swing from. Every time there are storm warnings we wonder if this will be the day that one of those trees fall on our house.
Sunday morning we drove Lone Star Road on our way to church and saw where a couple of trees had already been sawed out of the road. Clell and Dean Smithson had another huge limb blown off the tree in their front yard. That tree must have 9 lives, or at least 9 limbs, as every storm that comes through seems to take another limb down.
Ashton and Erin were here this weekend. I had hoped to let them help me work in the yard, but the weather squelched that fun. We did finally go to Branson and did some shopping and they saved PaPa Rick a ton of money. I love the way the stores print the $$ amount saved on the receipts.
The Walk for Life sponsored by Options Pregnancy Clinic in Ava was a resounding success. LeaAnn was thrilled to have 75 walkers there and a good amount of money was raised.
Turkey season is still keeping our men busy. Sean Tilley got a nice big bird with an 11” beard. Someone stole Rick’s turkey blind, it would appear that they came in from County Line Road or maybe Round Mtn. Rd. It’s not like that was the only place he could hunt, but sure doesn’t make one feel too good about hunters who visit our woods. That is not the first blind that has been swiped down there, so someone is making a good haul.
I got an email from Bill Edwards asking me to share this information about the 90th Forsyth Alumni Banquet:
