Dogwood Acres, 5/17/10

DOGWOOD ACRES, 05/17/10, ELANE CRUM

Hello friends. We had a quiet weekend with the girls, no TV as they were both on computers and Rick was studying. Erin has discovered Facebook and is quite the little chatter box. Ashton does not usually spend much time with Facebook, but planted crops on Farmville and had to harvest before church Sunday morning.

I left the house a couple of times Saturday to show property then stopped to see Jim and Dawn. Dawn had her dining table piled high with loot that is going in the garage sale next week, May 28 & 29.

I never saw Christie, but when I called she was cleaning out kitchen cabinets. Fran already has tons of stuff boxed up, so I think we are going to have some good stuff.

Sunday afternoon was the annual Mother’s Day Fish Fry at Sandy Church. After rain had poured most of the day, the men took the fryers over to Bob Siler’s garage, and then brought the "good stuff" to church for dinner at 4:00 p.m. They always do a good job and we ladies sure appreciate all they do.

Patsy Ayers sent an email to let me know that their daughter, Debra Gibbs, was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda at Drury on April 23. She graduates in August with an English degree. With two kids and a job, Debra is one hard working lady; no wonder her mom and dad are so proud.

I have a big newsy message from JoAnn Rice to share with you. After having breast cancer surgery in November, she finished with infusion chemo 3 weeks ago. Now she is on the 5 yr. chemo pill once a day with tests scheduled in September to see if she is a cancer survivor. JoAnn says, "God is so good…chemo can hit you mentally, emotionally and physically, but it can’t spiritually. No matter what they take from my body, they can’t take God from me".
LaDona and Ananda visited JoAnn and her mom recently; there was lots of hugs and fun being together. LaDona is still in Kentucky and is a counselor at the Woman's Crisis Center there and loves it. Ananda's job with the International Gaming Commission keeps her living in Mississippi. Plans are for them to spend their next time together with LaDona flying to Mississippi to celebrate the big one, her 50th birthday, with Ananda. Mom (Henrietta) is still crocheting and knitting and loves all the attention she gets from the family there in Michigan. There is a 4 mo. Old great-great-granddaughter that also brings a lot of joy to this 97-year old Grandma.
To keep busy, JoAnn started a new mission at church to send coupons to Servicemen and their families overseas to use at the commissary. She also joined a group of church ladies making quilts for children in trauma or serious illnesses. She says she keeps her mind and hands busy and out of trouble. I love getting letters from JoAnn and know that she misses friends and family here. JoAnn says, "We know God had plans for us (Jeramiah 29:11) when we moved to Michigan.....we love living by family, but we miss everyone back in Missouri".

I saw Vicky Bilyeu at the grocery store and she was telling me about their son, Dallas, and his new guitar. He saved his money and bought a butterscotch yellow Fender Squier Telecaster. She said he plays with Elzy every night and is getting really good.

Rick and I were surprised Wednesday afternoon by a visit from his cousins, Hazel Spurgeon and Connie Riddle. The girls always enjoy coming back to Taney County and we are glad they stopped by. Bye for now.
